Species information

Cycas megacarpa     K.D.Hill

This native shrub is commonly known as large seeded cycad.

Cycas megacarpa is described as a "cycad" in the Cycadaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Endangered. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is classified as Endangered.

Distribution is from Rockhampton to Maryborough. Fruit seeds larger than Cycas media which is a more northern species. In the Fraser Coast region the distribution appears to be in the more elevated areas in the west of the region which may be the southern limit of the species. ‘Back on Track’ critical priority plant species for the Burnett Mary NRM region. 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 4 Fraser Coast localities: Boompa, Brooweena, Gigoomgan, Malarga.
