This native aquatic plant is commonly known as brown drumsticks.

Fimbristylis tetragona is described as a "monocot" in the Cyperaceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Distribution is across northern Australia. New confirmed disjunct southern limit record in the Fraser Coast region at Vernon Conservation Park. Also reported at Bidwill. https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/121060040 https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/133674976 

It has not been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
