Species information

Neptunia plena     (L.) Benth.

This introduced aquatic plant is commonly known as water mimosa.

Neptunia plena is described as a "dicot" in the Leguminosae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Liste as a restricted invasive plant by Biosecurity Queensland. It is a recent introduction to Australia, with the first non-cultivated record in 2001. It inhabits dams, lagoons and swampy areas where water movement is minimal. (A revision of Neptunia Lour. Nectary gland usually present on leaves at the apex of the petiole near the basal pair of pinnae (Leguminosae: subfamily Caesalpinioideae, Mimosoid clade) in Australia and Malesia A.R. Bean). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census but is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
