Species information

Macadamia ternifolia     F.Muell.

This native tree is commonly known as Gympie nut.

Macadamia ternifolia is described as a "dicot" in the Proteaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Vulnerable. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is classified as Vulnerable.

Distribution between Goomboorian to Pine River (Costello, G., Gregory, M. and Donatiu, P. 2009. Southern Macadamia Species Recovery Plan. Report to Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, Canberra by Horticulture Australia Limited, Sydney.) Leaf blade apices acuminate, seeds 1.3-1.7 cm in diameter, kernel cyanogenic not edible (Stanley and Ross. 1986. Flora of south-eastern Queensland, Volume 2). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census but is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
