This native tree is commonly known as hairy hazelwood.

Symplocos harroldii is described as a "dicot" in the Symplocaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Near Threatened. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

The recorded distribution is from Tinana Creek southward to the Gold Coast. Observation near Brisbane https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/100131577 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
