Species information

Tinospora smilacina     Benth.

This native vine or climber is commonly known as snakevine.

Tinospora smilacina is described as a "dicot" in the Menispermaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Sometimes confused with Sarcopetalum harveyanum. Leaves of Tinospora smilacina 3- or 5-veined from the base. Upper pulvinus swelling at apex of petiole small or absent. Leaves of Sarcopetalum harveyanum 7-veined from the base. Upper and lower pulvinus obvious and elongated (Gwen Harden, Hugh Nicholson, Bill McDonald, Nan Nicholson, Terry Tame, John Williams. 2014. It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 13 Fraser Coast localities: Bauple, Craignish, Doongul, Dundowran Beach, Magnolia, Malarga, Mount Urah, River Heads, St Mary, Takura, Talegalla Weir, Teddington, Tuan Forest.
