Species information

Syagrus romanzoffiana     (Cham.) Glassman

This introduced tree is commonly known as Queen palm, Cocos palm.

Syagrus romanzoffiana is described as a "monocot" in the Arecaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Many Queensland Flora Census records for the Moreton district. Nearest record to Fraser Coast region is near Buderim. Often reported across the region as an established weed in bushland areas near houses. Listed as an invasive plant under the Biosecurity Act 2014, but not prohibited or restricted. 

It has not been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census but is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 18 Fraser Coast localities: Bidwill, Booral, Craignish, Dundowran Beach, Glenwood, Granville, Gundiah, Howard, Magnolia, Maryborough, Pialba, Point Vernon, River Heads, Tinana, Toogoom, Urangan, Urraween, Walligan.
