Species information

Smilax australis     R.Br.

This native vine or climber is commonly known as barbed-wire vine.

Smilax australis is described as a "monocot" in the Smilacaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Flowering Yengarie May 2016, Mount Urah May 2017. 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 46 Fraser Coast localities: Antigua, Bauple, Bauple Forest, Bidwill, Boompa, Boonooroo Plains, Booral, Burrum Heads, Burrum River, Craignish, Doongul, Duckinwilla, Dundathu, Dundowran, Dundowran Beach, Eli Waters, Gigoomgan, Glenorchy, Glenwood, Granville, Gunalda, Howard, Kawungan, K'gari, Magnolia, Malarga, Mount Urah, Nikenbah, Owanyilla, Point Vernon, Poona, River Heads, St Mary, Takura, Talegalla Weir, Teddington, Tiaro, Tinana, Tinnanbar, Toogoom, Tuan Forest, Urangan, Urraween, Woocoo, Yengarie, Yerra.
