This native groundcover is commonly known as feathered yellow-eye.

Xyris complanata is described as a "monocot" in the Xyridaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

 Regarded as a wetland species in Queensland WetlandInfo.

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 22 Fraser Coast localities: Beelbi Creek, Boonooroo Plains, Burgowan, Burrum Heads, Burrum River, Cherwell, Craignish, Duckinwilla, Dunmora, K'gari, Mount Urah, Owanyilla, Poona, Prawle, St Mary, Sunshine Acres, Talegalla Weir, Tinnanbar, Tuan Forest, Walliebum, Walligan, Wondunna.
