Species information

Melaleuca pachyphylla     (Cheel) Craven

This native shrub is commonly known as wallum bottlebrush.

Melaleuca pachyphylla is described as a "dicot" in the Myrtaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

K'gari (Fraser Island) appears to be the northern limit of the species. Australian Plant Census accepted name is Callistemon pachyphyllus. Red form reported at Burrum Coast and Tuan Forest. In the Fraser Coast region the cream flower form is the most common however both red and cream forms can be found together. Green flower forms are also present in some areas.  Regarded as a wetland species in Queensland WetlandInfo.

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 14 Fraser Coast localities: Boonooroo Plains, Booral, Burrum Heads, Dunmora, Eli Waters, Granville, Pacific Haven, Poona, Talegalla Weir, Teddington, Tinnanbar, Tuan Forest, Walliebum, Walligan.
