Confirmed at Happy Valley on K'gari (Fraser Island). All Abrus precatorius in the Fraser Coast Region is thought to be subsp. africanus which is a weed species of particular concern on K'gari (Fraser Island) (Moonbi 129, 19 Feb 2014). Seed pod on weed species is rough, native is smooth (The State of Queensland (Department of Agriculture and Fisheries) 2010–2015. Queensland Government. www.biosecurity.qld.gov.au. Weeds of Australia, Queensland Biosecurity Edition. [21/07/2016]). As at 01/07/2016 listed as a non-declared environmental weed for the Fraser Coast region. The seeds are extremely toxic (Stanley and Ross. 1986. Flora of south-eastern Queensland, Volume 2).
It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census but is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
