Species information

Acanthospermum hispidum     DC.

This introduced groundcover is commonly known as star burr.

Acanthospermum hispidum is described as a "dicot" in the Asteraceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Recorded on K'gari (Fraser Island). Also reported at Aubinville, Dundowran Beach, Howard, Maryborough, Teebar, Torbanlea and along Mary River (Juliet Musgrave, FCRC). As at 01/07/2016 declared as a Local Law Pest Plant for the Fraser Coast region. 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 2 Fraser Coast localities: Boompa, Teddington.
