Species information

Cryptostylis erecta     R.Br.

This native groundcover is commonly known as bonnet orchid.

Cryptostylis erecta is described as a "monocot" in the Orchidaceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Uncommon in the Fraser Coast region recorded on K'gari (Fraser Island). Reported at Poona National Park (Maaroom and Boonooroo) and Tinnanbar (Alan Logan). A small or largish plant with a single erect broad or elliptical leaf 8-12cm in length; greenish on one side, purplish on the other. Flower stem 18-40cm high with 1-8 erect, hooded, brown or bluish 3cm high flowers. Flowering period April-August (Alan Logan). Listed as a special least concern species in Queensland (https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/plants/protected-plants/harvesting). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
