Species information

Cryptostylis subulata     (Labill.) Rchb.f.

This native groundcover is commonly known as large tounge orchid.

Cryptostylis subulata is described as a "monocot" in the Orchidaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

A large plant with a single erect, or obliquely erect, lanceolate 16 X 3cm green leaf; sometimes purplish on underside. Flowering stem 30-60cm high with 3-8cm long drooping flowers with a reddish labellum. Flowering period August-September. Reasonably common. Vernon C/P; Bingham (P/P); Tandora; K'gari (Fraser Island); Maaroom (Poona N/P). (Alan Logan). Listed as a special least concern species in Queensland (https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/plants/protected-plants/harvesting). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 5 Fraser Coast localities: K'gari, Talegalla Weir, Tinnanbar, Tuan Forest, Walligan.
