Species information

Cymbidium canaliculatum     R.Br.

This native epiphyte is commonly known as channel-leaved cymbidium.

Cymbidium canaliculatum is described as a "monocot" in the Orchidaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

A medium to very large clumping plant growing on trees. Stems (pseudobulbs) 6-10cm long with 2-6 rigid, erect, deeply channeled, linear leaves 15-40cm in length. Flowering racemes 20-40cm long with 10-60 3-4cm diameter blotched flowers in various colour combinations. Flowering period September-October. Widespread but not common; Dundowran (Mungomery vine scrub); Maaroom; Bauple Mountain N/P. (Alan Logan). Listed as a special least concern species in Queensland (https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/plants/protected-plants/harvesting). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 17 Fraser Coast localities: Aldershot, Antigua, Booral, Craignish, Doongul, Dundowran Beach, Magnolia, Point Vernon, Prawle, St Mary, Sunshine Acres, Talegalla Weir, Teebar, Tiaro, Tinana, Tinnanbar, Yengarie.
