Achyranthes aspera     L.

This native groundcover is commonly known as chaff flower.

Achyranthes aspera is described as a "dicot" in the Amaranthaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Achyranthes aspera is naturalised in most countries in the tropics and sub-tropics. Regarded as a weed species (http://keys.lucidcentral.org/keys/v3/eafrinet/weeds/key/weeds/Media/Html/Achyranthes_aspera_%28Devils_Horsewhip%29.htm).  

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 7 Fraser Coast localities: Bauple, Gundiah, Mount Urah, Tiaro, Tinana, Toogoom, Yengarie.
