Species information

Corunastylis acuminata     (R.S.Rogers) D.L.Jones & M.A.Clem.

This native groundcover is commonly known as pointed midge orchid.

Corunastylis acuminata is described as a "monocot" in the Orchidaceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Uncommon in the Fraser Coast region recorded on K'gari (Fraser Island) and Poona National Park (Maaroom and Boonooroo). Also reported at Tandora, Tinnanbar, Vernon Conservation Park (Walligan) and Burrum River (Pacific Haven) at the northern limit of the species. A slender plant with a single, erect, tubular, onion-like leaf that encloses the flowering stem for most of its length. Flowering stem 25-30cm high with a dense raceme of 6-20 6-8mm high dark brown or reddish pendant flowers. Flowering period February-June. (Alan Logan). Previously known as Genoplesium acuminatum. Listed as a special least concern species in Queensland (https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/plants/protected-plants/harvesting). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
