Species information

Andropogon virginicus     L.

This introduced groundcover is commonly known as whiskey grass.

Andropogon virginicus is described as a "monocot" in the Poaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

The base of the leaves at base of the plant are flat and fan out. Seed heads fluffy. 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 7 Fraser Coast localities: Bauple Forest, Dunmora, Poona, Tinnanbar, Tuan Forest, Walligan, Yengarie.
