Prasophyllum exilis     D.L.Jones & R.J.Bates

This native groundcover is commonly known as thin leek orchid.

Prasophyllum exilis is described as a "monocot" in the Orchidaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Near Threatened. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

A small slender plant with a single, round, erect, tubular onion-like leaf that encloses the flowering stem. Flowering stem 15-25cm high with 3-8 1cm high brown or greenish flowers with a pure white labellum. Flowering period July-August. Widespread but not common. Vernon C/P; Poona N/P (Boonooroo); Churchill Mines Rd. Type specimen collected near Torbanlea. Elsewhere is recorded from Woodgate south to Tweed Heads. A ground orchid that would not normally be noted unless flowering (which appears to be irregular and dependent on sufficient soil moisture). Winter rain needed. Threats are inappropriate fire management, climate change and vegetation clearing (Alan Logan). Listed as a priority locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region Threatened Species Action Plan (Ecosure 2019, Stage 2 TSAP for Fraser Coast LGA, version R3, Report to Fraser Coast Regional Council. Brisbane.). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 3 Fraser Coast localities: Urangan, Walligan, Wondunna.
