This native tree is commonly known as crabapple.

Schizomeria ovata is described as a "dicot" in the Cunoniaceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Uncommon in the Fraser Coast region. Recorded at Poona creek and K'gari (Fraser Island) at the northern limit of the south-east Queensland population. Also recorded in north Queensland. https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/86952321 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
