Species information

Xanthium occidentale     Wallr.

This introduced groundcover is commonly known as Noogoora burr.

Xanthium occidentale is described as a "dicot" in the Asteraceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Australian Plant Census accepted name is Xanthium strumarium. Listed as an invasive plant under the Queensland Biosecurity Act 2014 but not prohibited or restricted. As at 01/07/2016 declared as a Local Law Pest Plant for the Fraser Coast region. 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census but is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 5 Fraser Coast localities: Boompa, Dundowran Beach, Talegalla Weir, Tiaro, Urangan.
