Species information

Spathodea campanulata subsp. nilotica     (Seem.) Bidgood

This introduced tree is commonly known as African tulip tree.

Spathodea campanulata subsp. nilotica is described as a "dicot" in the Bignoniaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Originated in tropical Africa. A category 3 restricted invasive plant under the Biosecurity Act 2014. Reports of significant negative impacts on native bees (http://www.bobthebeeman.com.au/african-tulip-tree-ebook.asp). Census records from north Qld and Moreton district. Also reported at K'gari (Fraser Island).  

It has not been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 5 Fraser Coast localities: Burrum Heads, Dundowran Beach, Kawungan, Maryborough, Point Vernon.
