Species information

Caladenia alata     (R.Br.) D.L.Jones & M.A.Clem.

This native groundcover is commonly known as fairy fingers.

Caladenia alata is described as a "monocot" in the Orchidaceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Very uncommon in the Fraser Coast region recorded on K'gari (Fraser Island). Also reported at Tinnanbar. A very small plant with a single, linear erect grass-like leaf 5-8cm high. Flowering stem 10-18cm high, with 1-3 white to rosy red flowers with darkly barred labellum. Flowers 1.5-2cm diameter; August- September. Like Caladenia catenata but about half the size (Alan Logan). Listed as a special least concern species in Queensland (https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/plants/protected-plants/harvesting).https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/observations/132110899 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
