Species information

Asystasia gangetica subsp. gangetica     (L.) T.Anderson

This introduced groundcover is commonly known as Chinese violet.

Asystasia gangetica subsp. gangetica is described as a "dicot" in the Acanthaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

This invasive weed species escaping from gardens into natural areas (https://keyserver.lucidcentral.org/weeds/data/media/Html/asystasia_gangetica.htm). Recorded in foreshore vegetation at Torquay and Toogoom. 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
