Species information

Banksia spinulosa var. spinulosa     Sm.

This native shrub is commonly known as golden candlesticks.

Banksia spinulosa var. spinulosa is described as a "dicot" in the Proteaceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Fraser Coast region recorded distribution limited to far south-east near Tinnanbar and at Poona Creek. Iconic species for the region due to the size of flowers. Narrow leaves only finely serrate towards the apex. Variety collina has wider leaves with leaves serrate for much of their length (Stanley and Ross. 1986. Flora of south-east Queensland Vol 2).  

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 3 Fraser Coast localities: Tiaro, Tuan Forest, Walligan.
