Species information

Brachychiton acerifolius     (A.Cunn. ex G.Don) Macarthur

This introduced tree is commonly known as flame tree.

Brachychiton acerifolius is described as a "dicot" in the Sterculiaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Widely distributed across mainly coastal eastern Australia. Does not appear to be native to the Fraser Coast region. Planted as an ornamental. Encountered as an introduced species in bushland near some urban areas. Fruiting Maryborough April 2016. Brachychiton is included in the family Malvaceae in the Australian Plant Census. 

It has not been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 9 Fraser Coast localities: Dundowran Beach, Howard, Kawungan, Maryborough, Point Vernon, Takura, Talegalla Weir, Tinana, Urangan.
