Species information

Cryptocarya obovata     R.Br.

This native tree is commonly known as pepperberry.

Cryptocarya obovata is described as a "dicot" in the Lauraceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Recorded northern limit is Tinana Creek (Gwen Harden, Hugh Nicholson, Bill McDonald, Nan Nicholson, Terry Tame, John Williams. 2014. Rainforest Plants of Australia). Also reported at Dundowran, Tinana and Lenthalls Dam.  

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census but is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 8 Fraser Coast localities: Bauple Forest, Craignish, Duckinwilla, Dundowran, Dundowran Beach, Maryborough, Teddington, Tinana.
