Species information

Cyperus laevigatus     L.

This native aquatic plant is commonly known as smooth flatsedge.

Cyperus laevigatus is described as a "monocot" in the Cyperaceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Recorded on K'gari (Fraser Island) which is the northern limit for the coastal population. Also present in inland areas, coastal south-western Australia and other parts of the world.  Regarded as a wetland species in Queensland WetlandInfo.

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
