This native groundcover is commonly known as common pomax.
Pomax abunda is described as a "dicot" in the Rubiaceae family.
In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.
Previously known as Pomax sp. Mt Coot-tha, widespread, common; not rooting at nodes; stipules mostly erect; leaves with 2-3 indistinct lateral veins (Glenn Leiper, Jan Glazebrook, Denis Cox & Kerry Rathie. 2025. Mangroves to Mountains, Fourth Edition).
Plant with erect stems, not rooting at nodes; leaves elliptic with up to 2 or 3 pairs of lateral veins; stipules mostly erect, up to 1.8 mm long; habitat inland. Recently described (Pomax abunda Ngugi and P. beanii Ngugi (Rubiaceae), two new species from Eastern Australia. Lorna B. Ngugi & Paul I. Forster.)
It has not been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is not listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in the Atlas of Living Australia.
