This native groundcover is commonly known as coastal sprite orchid.
Diteilis simmondsii is described as a "monocot" in the Orchidaceae family.

A small robust plant with 2-3 broad 10-15 cm long pleated green leaves. Flowering stem 15-22cm high with 3-10 12mm high deep reddish purple flowers with a green column. Flowering period December-January. Rare in area. Central Station; K'gari (Fraser Island). (Alan Logan). Limited distribution elsewhere between Port Douglas and Cardwell and K'gari (Fraser Island) to Caloundra.
It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
