Species information

Macrozamia longispina     P.I.Forst. & D.L.Jones

This native shrub is commonly known as zamia palm.

Macrozamia longispina is described as a "cycad" in the Zamiaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Near Threatened. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Previously known as Macrozamia sp. (Wrattens P.I.Forster). Restricted to an area west of Gympie with one outlying population to the north in St Mary State Forest (Austrobaileya Vol 6 Number 1 2001). Similar to Macrozamia mountperriensis but has fewer narrower leaflets (52-5 v's 70-86) (Austrobaileya Vol 6 Number 1 2001). ‘Back on Track’ critical priority plant species for the Burnett Mary NRM region. 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.
