Species information

Petalostigma pubescens     Domin

This native tree is commonly known as quinine bush.

Petalostigma pubescens is described as a "dicot" in the Picrodendraceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Separate male and female plants (dioecious). Male flowers in clusters of 3 or 4 while female flowers solitary (Gwen Harden, Hugh Nicholson, Bill McDonald, Nan Nicholson, Terry Tame, John Williams. 2014. Rainforest Plants of Australia).  

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 46 Fraser Coast localities: Antigua, Bauple Forest, Beelbi Creek, Bidwill, Boompa, Boonooroo Plains, Booral, Burrum Heads, Burrum River, Cherwell, Craignish, Doongul, Duckinwilla, Dundathu, Dundowran Beach, Dunmora, Eli Waters, Glenorchy, Granville, Howard, Island Plantation, K'gari, Magnolia, Malarga, Mount Urah, Owanyilla, Pacific Haven, Paterson, Pialba, Point Vernon, Poona, Scarness, St Mary, Susan River, Takura, Talegalla Weir, Teddington, Teebar, Tinana, Tinnanbar, Toogoom, Torquay, Tuan Forest, Urangan, Yengarie, Yerra.
