Species information

Arthrochilus irritabilis     F.Muell.

This native groundcover is commonly known as clubbed elbow orchid.

Arthrochilus irritabilis is described as a "monocot" in the Orchidaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

A small plant with several linear or narrow-lanceolate leaves in a rosette at ground level; absent at flowering time. Leaves are present from April- August. These die off, and the flowering stems appear October- November. Flowering stems from 10-20cm high with 3-15 pale greenish translucent 1cm high flowers. Flowers October- February. Widespread; Duggan C/P; Vernon C/P; Maaroom (Poona N/P). (Alan Logan). Leaves present Boonooroo Plains June 2019 and Tandora June 2020. Listed as a special least concern species in Queensland (https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/plants-animals/plants/protected-plants/harvesting). 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 6 Fraser Coast localities: Beaver Rock, Boonooroo Plains, Doongul, Talegalla Weir, Tinnanbar, Walligan.
