This native groundcover is commonly known as northern scale-rush.

Coleocarya gracilis is described as a "monocot" in the Restionaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Fraser Coast region near the northern limit of the species. Reported at 4 Fraser Coast localities: Burrum Heads, K'gari, Takura, Tuan Forest.
