Species information

Burchardia umbellata     R.Br.

This native groundcover is commonly known as milk maids.

Burchardia umbellata is described as a "monocot" in the Colchicaceae family.

Flagged as a potential locally significant species in the Fraser Coast Region. In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Uncommon in the Fraser Coast region recorded at K'gari (Fraser Island) and Tin Can Bay (Kauri Creek). Also reported at Tandora, Walliebum, Boonooroo Plains, Poona Creek, Tuan Forest and Tinnanbar. This is the northern limit of the species. Regarded as a wetland species in Queensland WetlandInfo.

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 7 Fraser Coast localities: Boonooroo Plains, K'gari, Tandora, Tinnanbar, Tuan Forest, Walliebum, Walligan.
