Species information

Castanospermum australe     A.Cunn. & Fraser ex Hook.

This native tree is commonly known as black bean.

Castanospermum australe is described as a "dicot" in the Leguminosae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is classified as Least Concern. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

In the Fraser Coast region a tree of river banks, particularly the Mary River.  

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 18 Fraser Coast localities: Bauple, Bauple Forest, Duckinwilla, Glenorchy, Howard, Magnolia, Maryborough, Mount Urah, Pioneers Rest, River Heads, St Mary, Talegalla Weir, Teddington, Tiaro, Tinana, Tinana South, Tuan Forest, Yerra.
