In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.
In the past planted as a dune stabiliser. A category 2 restricted invasive plant under the Biosecurity Act 2014. Was established at Booral however may now be eradicated. Is likely still present on the south-east coast of K'gari (Fraser Island). Recorded there by helicopter survey in 2018.
