Species information

Sporobolus africanus     (Poir.) Robyns & Tournay

This introduced groundcover is commonly known as Parramatta grass.

Sporobolus africanus is described as a "monocot" in the Poaceae family.

In the Queensland Nature Conservation Act it is not classified as it is not native to Queensland. Under the Federal Environment Protection Biodiversity Conservation Act it is not classified.

Declared as Class 2 pest under the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002. 

It has been recorded in the Wide Bay district in the Queensland Herbarium Census and is listed as occurring in the Fraser Coast region in Queensland Herbarium Wildlife Online.

Reported at 5 Fraser Coast localities: River Heads, Susan River, Takura, Talegalla Weir, Urraween.
